Finding Peace in a Difficult World

Day Meditation Workshop with Nick Scott

Saturday 30rd of November

9.30am - 5.00pm

Today it seems our world is particularly divisive, intolerant and aggressive. However, humans have always been like this. 2,500 years ago the Buddha lived in a land dominated by two warring empires, Magadha and Kosala, and much of his teaching was concerned with how to find peace in difficult times. He taught inner skills for changing our attitudes and way of responding so that we could live in harmony despite the difficulty. Through developing an inner wisdom that is based on not identifying, we are able to see that all views, opinions and beliefs are not actually ‘true’ and do not need to be defended, and that the way to deal with the ‘four worldly winds’ of Praise & Blame, Fame & Disrepute, Gain & Loss and Pleasure & Pain is to develop an ability to reside unattached to anything. This retreat will explore how we go about this.

This day is suitable for both those experienced and those relatively new to meditation. It is free, with everyone bringing a contribution to a shared lunch.
