Ajahn Appamado has been a Buddhist monk for nearly twenty years, having started his training in 2005 at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in England under the guidance of Luang Por Sumedho. He was born in 1976 in Portugal and is now the assistant abbot of Sumedharama Buddhist Monastery north of Lisbon, and soon to become the abbot. He has a profound understanding of the Buddhist insight teachings which he presents with an emphasis on working with the heart. He previously practiced for many years as a layman and so understands the challenges of trying to establish meditation in lay life. He is kind, self depreciating and humorous, and an inspiring teacher.
